Homepage | Gran Canaria | Tenerife | La Gomera | La Palma | El HierroCanary Islands: a group of 7 vulcanic islands.
It consists of Gran Canaria, Tenerife, La Gomera, La Palma, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura and El Hierro. Some people are convinced that the group counts 8 islands, because of the small island Graciosa belonging to Lanzarote. Beloved by sailors, who like to anchor in a not crowdy place.
"The island with its many faces" is one of the names for this miniature continent. It consists of different, impressive landscapes
with amazing differences in heights over a very small distance. Mountain peaks wrapped in mist, dunes in Maspalomas,... Gran Canaria arised 14 million years ago and belongs to the region Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, together with Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. |

an important international function, worldwide. The city itself has an ancient center with historical buildings,
musea,... Gran Canaria offers something for everyone its taste. Most known is the coastal town Playa del Inglés with a lot of bars, disco's, a sunny beach bordering on the dunes. |
More unknown and in fact much prettier are the small Villages inland. There the Canarian characteristics
with its old traditions and folklore are still have been preserved. Traditional parties up in the mountain villages to honour the blossom of the almond trees (Fiesta de Almendras - February) in for example Tejeda. There are 14 national holiday-days a year on this island. Here you will also find the small farms, making the famous Canarian cheeses (out of 3 kinds of milk -sheep, cow and goat milk-). |

Up in the north and the center of the island there are cave houses to visit, often still used as stable or even house. The area around the Roque Nublo (highest point on Gran Canaria: Pico de las Nievas 1949m) is acclaimed one of the biggest natural parks in entire Spain with a surface of 260m2. Beautiful walking routes are crossing this area, where you still can see the vulkcanic origin. The biggest crater has a cross-section of 15 kilometers! |
